About Me

Sterling R. Walker
A native of Maryland, Sterling R. Walker has lived most of her life in North Carolina, but has recently relocated to North Logan, UT. She has been hooked on science fiction since discovering Harry Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat series when she was 12. She liked SSR so much that she decided her own writing should always contain plenty of humor to temper the action and suspense. Walker earned a BA in English from North Carolina State University, with an emphasis in Creative Writing. The Orphan Ship is her first published work. It was awarded a 2012 silver award from Children's Literary Classics. Sterling is divorced and lives in North Logan, Utah, with two of her six children. Her oldest son is married, and she has one grandson. Sterling R. Walker’s exciting sequel to The Orphan Ship, The Lost Sheep, was published in 2013. Book three, The Last Orphan, was published in 2014. The boxed set The Orphan Ship Trilogy, was released on Kindle in 2016. In 2018, she published book one in a new series, Vesta Exiled, book two in the Vesta series, Vesta Divided, was published in 2019, and book three, Vesta's Survival, was published in 2021.

Book Reviews

"The characters are woven so intricately together with the plot that it is impossible not to care about them, especially when they begin to see past their own concerns in order to benefit the lives around them. I will always be the first to tell you that fantasy or science fiction stories aren't typically my deal. But the humanistic interest in this book made reading worth it. This is a solid read that isn't just fluff. And for those science-fiction buffs, you are guaranteed an enjoying read."
- Mari Jensen (Bookrated.com)

Sci-fi genre is usually not my first pick when selecting a book, but The Orphan Ship was so much more than science fiction. The story line and characters kept me turning the pages as I anxiously discovered the meaning behind the title and fell in love with many of the characters. I totally enjoyed The Orphan Ship from the first page to the last. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in reading a well written story with interesting characters and a gripping story line.

The sequel did the first book justice, gave more depth to the world the author created, and introduced some new characters that I loved and some I loved to hate. Can't wait for the third installment, hopefully out soon. I really love the messages and themes the series presents along the way.
